This blog is from Mrs. Johnston 6th block environmental science class at Hixson High School. We are the Wireless Earth Watchdogs. We are working with the Arduino platform, and building water quality stations. We are collaborating with CSAS, Dr. Mark Schorr from UTC, and JP from Austin Peay University

what we are doing today!!
Today we are all in our groups working on our projects, so we can get everything done by Friday because Friday is Halloween and we want to have a party we are all really excited. we have Katie and Sara working on twitter, we have Jonas, Nick, Ben and Matthew working on the buoy, we have Cierra and Kristina working on a power point, we have Amber, Mrs. Johnston, Connor Hank and Kylan working on programming and we have Cassidy, Kathrine and Paige working on this blog we are busy bee's today.
Our hike to the creek on Monday
The water flow is very very slow almost stagnant. The water level is at its original bank and is at it's original depth. Weather outside is around 60 degrees F, cloudy and foggy. Tearance Darius and Randy are testing the water tempurature and PH level. At one spot the temperature was 59 degrees F, and the PH was 7.1 at the other spot the creek water was 60.5 degrees and PH was 6.7

Building the buoy 10/16/14
today we are building the buoy and jonas's parents came in to help us jonas's dad helped do a lot of the hard work like cutting pip and and such but nick and Jonas did lots of work to help to like drill the holes and help with clean up so the room wouldn't be to messy and at the end of it all our buoy was built we aren't going to test it yet but soon we will.
the creek when it rained
We hiked down to the creek to check it out because it rained a lot the past few days its usually 6-12in deep but the day we hiked down it was 5-7ft deep and the creek smelled a lot and the current was stronger.

what we are doing today!!
Today we are hiking down to the creek behind the school to see how the rain has changed the creek and we are taking notes on the changes.

10/13/14
Mrs. Patterson-Johnston, Mrs. Perdue, and Matthew went to Home Depot and acquired the materials needed to build the buoy.
we will be learning
to use Lab Quest and it will test the Ph level, conductivity, and temperature
of the water. Once this is done it will make a graph of the slight changes we
see week to week and eventually day to day changes.
Alexis, Amber, Katherine, and Jade are going through and
making a list of possible things that could go wrong with the buoy once we set
it up. We want to make sure we have the best product before we set it p and if something
does go wrong we need a plan of how to deal with it.
9/29/14 we split up into focus groups
Amber and Katherine researching water quality and abandoned coal mines in the Chattanooga, TN.
Juan and Kylan are testing the ph levels and temperature in
the water with our probes to make sure they work.
Cierra and Paige are researching the air quality for
Chattanooga
Connor, Mrs. J, Nick, and Matthew are making a list of
things to order so we can build the buoy and also the things we need to build
our arduino.
Also as usual Sara and Katie are working on our twiiter and
I am working on the blog. Cassidy is out today and Jaylan is helping me.
